It takes hundreds of little bits and pieces of material to make a mosaic. Whether they come from old plates or cookie tins, KFAI’s Xan Holston learned how to field dress them from a master mosaic maker. But sometimes, taking things apart to make something new has hazards.
Then you'll love the new 2016 Minnesota State Fair Commemorative Art!
The paper mosaic is constructed from recycled paper packaging that includes candy, cereal and soda boxes. The majority of the paper material was collected from the 2015 Minnesota State Fair.
The original artwork was on display in the Fine Arts Building at the fairgrounds throughout the 2016 Minnesota State Fair (August 25th - September 5th) and limited edition poster prints are sold out!
Michael Sweere's mosaics selected for Vikings Stadium
Not only will the new Minnesota Vikings U.S. Bank Stadium be outfitted with glass from Owatonna’s Viracon, but inside it will feature the artwork of Owatonna native Michael Sweere in a gallery to greet fans on their way to the game.
At the beginning of October, the Vikings and the Minnesota Sports Facilities Authority (MSFA) announced the names of 34 Minnesota artists commissioned to create a collection of 500 works specific for the stadium. The website for the U.S. Bank Stadium says Sweere and the others were selected from more than 1,000 submissions to showcase the state’s sports teams and regional history.

Art plays a crucial role in the healing process for patients and families at the Children’s Hospitals and Clinics of Minnesota. Whether it’s the one-on-one art therapy or the infusion of kid-friendly art installations throughout the buildings, art helps to make the hospital more familiar and friendly for all who walk through the doors. Through its Arts & Healing program, Children’s Hospital will end up with more than 700 pieces of commissioned art.
