Michael Sweere's mosaics selected for Vikings Stadium
Not only will the new Minnesota Vikings U.S. Bank Stadium be outfitted with glass from Owatonna’s Viracon, but inside it will feature the artwork of Owatonna native Michael Sweere in a gallery to greet fans on their way to the game.
At the beginning of October, the Vikings and the Minnesota Sports Facilities Authority (MSFA) announced the names of 34 Minnesota artists commissioned to create a collection of 500 works specific for the stadium. The website for the U.S. Bank Stadium says Sweere and the others were selected from more than 1,000 submissions to showcase the state’s sports teams and regional history.

Art plays a crucial role in the healing process for patients and families at the Children’s Hospitals and Clinics of Minnesota. Whether it’s the one-on-one art therapy or the infusion of kid-friendly art installations throughout the buildings, art helps to make the hospital more familiar and friendly for all who walk through the doors. Through its Arts & Healing program, Children’s Hospital will end up with more than 700 pieces of commissioned art.
